Once your data is protected by Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack, you can: ● Quickly recover on a similar or dissimilar server, to keep operations running while a replacement system is provisioned. ● Perform bare machine recovery in a local office, in a data center, or in a central disaster recovery site. This capability can be essential for continuing business operations following a complete site failure from a catastrophic event such as ﬁre, ﬂood, hurricane or extended power outage. ● Provide access to applications and data within a few minutes of a server failure. With the software’s unique virtual recovery capabilities, data volumes can be made available as soon as the recovery process starts, while data is restored in the background. ● Create new systems from any previous known-good, application-consistent recovery point to return to a time prior to the disaster (point-in-time rollback). Migration made easy Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack for Bare Machine Recovery can also be the ideal tool for performing migrations to new hardware platforms, making it fast and easy to move workloads from old hardware or standalone servers to new hardware or blade servers. With most high-availability solutions such as replication or mirroring, you are required to keep two of everything one for production and one for failover. For example, if you have 20 offices with three to ﬁve servers each, and you determine that it’s unlikely that more than two offices could be down at the same time, you would need a maxi mum of ten standby servers (or virtual machines) to provide a platform for recovery using Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack for Bare Machine Recovery. With this solution, if a single server is lost in one remote office, it can be restored to a standby server in that office or in the data center. From there, it can be accessed by remote staff or shipped to the remote office for re-deployment. When an entire office is impacted, all the servers from that office can be restored simultaneously in the data center or disaster recovery site.
