Producten - New Media Manager for TSM - How does Media Manager work?

How does Media Manager work?

Disaster Recovery Movement Steps
1. Start the Move Wizard. 2. Media Manager determines all DR volumes to process. This includes Copy Pool as well as Database backup tapes. DRM State: Mountable. 3. Media Manager moves these tapes to the library’s I/O station. If the I/O station is too small for the checkout, Media Manager waits for volumes to be physically removed before continuing. 4. A unique tracking/batch number is generated and the tapes are moved from Mountable to Courier. 5. The barcode scanner is used to verify that the tapes removed from the library correspond to the tapes to be moved. 6. The tape DRM state is updated from Mountable to Courier. 7. When tapes arrive at the Vault, Media Manager is instructed to update the tapes from Courier to Vault. 8. For retrieval the procedure is the same, but we keep your Vaultretrieve tapes as Onsiteretrieve. You are able to check them in later. 9. The Checkin also checks how much your I/O station can hold in batch.

Tracking Export/Import Tapes
Exporting the Volume
  • Media Manager can track Export/Import tapes.
  • The export volume is handled as a special volume with it own tracking document.
  • The volume historyfile is not needed to keep track of export volumes.
Importing the Volume
  • Use Media Manager to import an exported volume into a second TSM server.
  • Simply scan the tape and Media Manager will check this volume as a private into the library.
  • Checks are done from the original server to the target server.
